Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Carolyn Kraker, United States Navy
HM2 Kraker was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, USS George H. W. Bush, and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. HM2's experience ranged from being staff on the inpatient psychiatric ward, working as a psychometrist for the Neuropsychology clinic, as assistant leading petty officer for the Resiliency clinic, as the sole psychiatric technician the aircraft carrier, and finally as the leading petty officer for Outpatient Mental Health in charge of six outpatient clinics.
While at WRNMMC, she deployed to Djibouti, Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (2013-2014) and was the first USN Psychiatric Technician assigned to Area of Responsibility that encompassed the Horn of Africa. She also was selected to be part of the Presidential Detail to assist the President, Vice President, and First and Second Families during any visit to WRNMMC before and after her deployment. Later, during her time at NMCP, HM2's expertise led her to be chosen as Leading Petty Officer for the Special Psychiatric Rapid Intervention Team (SPRINT) East, which is a BUMED program for trauma response within the fleet.
HM2 Kraker's awards include Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Rifle Marksman Ribbon, and Navy Pistol Marksman Ribbon.
